The red dot in the southern central region is Hyderabad, where we are currently doing our internship.

Hello Everyone,
So, you want to know about what would bring a young family across the world to spend some time in Hyderabad, India? Well, when we first set off to come here on our 9 month internship to complete my bachelor’s degree, I really didn’t know exactly what I’d be doing.
Since we’ve arrived, we’ve learned alot about Christian Broadcast Network (where we are working), alot about the people in Hyderabad, and alot about ourselves.
Here’s a little about CBN:

CBN makes 5 tv shows in three languages, and they are shown all over India. One of them is a daily talk show and it is the feature of the broadcasting currently, sharing the gospel across northern India!
CBN has follow-up methods. With phone counselling centers in various cities, available in multiple languages to help people through deep spiritual issues.
CBN is out on the field doing incredible relief and development projects all over rural, and urban India. This includes drilling over fifty bored wells a month, providing fresh water to scores of people. Also, free medical exams and surgeries are provided to thousands every month as well.
CBN also uses other forms of multi-media to reach out and glorify God’s name and see lives transformed by His power. They are using their website for this purpose and following up with phone and email counseling.

Ok… so, that’s a little bit about what CBN is. So, next I’ll tell you how we fit in.

For one, I really believe that the main purpose for my coming was to strengthen the Indian brothers and sisters who are co-laboring at CBN. I am the only American working at CBN India, and as such, I am able to bring a unique cultural perspective to the table. I’m sure that’s sometimes a good thing, and others it’s bad, but regardless of where I come from, I have a strong desire to see God move in and through this organization. I believe that that desire I have is a desire of God’s, and however I can, I will speak and act to see God move in our hearts here. That means that I pray for those here, and the leaders. I also try and listen and be a good and encouraging brother.

Secondly, I’ve found that my desire to see God’s glory made known, and my delight in playing with websites is a great match. And, I was asked to be a part of the webteam in designing cbnindia.org. That’s been really great, and we are looking at how to really utilize our resources to make the real Jesus known to India. Not only that, but we currently trying to make the webstite a powerful Christian Resource for counseling people with family issues and other problems that Indian’s face daily.
I could talk alot about the vision I feel like God has set before me for the website, but there’s something more important than just setting the thing up. Building a team that has a unified vision, and a passion to keep it going is crucial. And, it’s amazing to see that being formed as we are all working together to shape and mold this tool for the kingdom.

Ok… what about our family? Well, we live in a nice apartment 2 kilometers from the office. We are enjoying Indian life, Indian company and Indian food. However, we are in a constant struggle to keep things… “regular” in the bathroom if you know what I mean.

As far as what’s next? Well, we are due to leave here in October. My sister’s getting married in NY, and then we are planning on going to Scotland. What that is going to look like exactly is unsure. But, just as God was so faithful to have something planned for us here before we got here, He will have what something perfect for us there as well.
Do keep us in your prayers though, and visit our website often for updates, and personal thoughts, and prayer requests. Blessings to you from John and Rachel Clancy.

Support FAQ’s

$$$$$$
You’ve got questions huh?

A few others have asked some questions and since we know that finances can be a touchy subject, we want to try and answer any questions that you may have. If your question is not answered on this page, please be sure to contact us.

Do I have to give through Bethany?

No, you do not have to give through Bethany. You may send checks directly to Rachel or I. Unfortunately though, we can not give you a receipt for your taxes. Bethany however does issue reciepts.

If I give through Bethany, do they take a percentage of the money?

No, Bethany does not take a percentage. They do charge an administrative fee of $300. This is substantially lower than what most missions charge to handle the finances, and they do an incredible job. Every month, they give each missionary a detailed spread sheet of who pledged what, who gave what and when they gave it. They help to ensure that the money is in place in a timely fashion. And, they facilitate on-line giving with a credit card and direct deposit, making giving easier. Normally, an agency would charge around 10% for this service. The $300 works out to well under 5%. We also paid $180 to Adventive in Canada. They will be handling our Candadian donors so that they too can write off their gifts.

Are my donations tax deductable?

Yes! As written above, as long as they are given through Bethany (or Adventive for Canadians) they are tax-deductable.

If I set up direct deposit, or automatic online giving using a credit card when will it stop?

It will automatically stop when we return. I double checked this with the finance department and told them that payments are to stop in October of 2006. If we should decide to continue there past then, we would contact you and make that known and then you would have the option of continuing or not. You are able to stop your payment at any time by emailing joyce.haase@bethanyinternational.org and letting her know.

What does your budget look like?

Well… I’m glad you asked! Click here and I’ll show you: The budget

Canadian Giving

Canadian Flag

Please note: Whatever way that you decide to give, please either email us or fill out a reply card and mail it to Bethany. It is important for our records. Thanks!

Download Reply card here.
If you are Canadian, you may still utilize the three giving methods that are described on the support page. However, I do not think that the receipt that Bethany sends will be valid for tax purposes in Canada. I’m not sure though. If you still want to give through Bethany, you can do that here.
We are working with a Canadian organization (Adventive) that will be handling our Canadian donations and they will be able to issue Canadian Tax reciepts.
You can either mail a check to them made out to Adventive Cross Cultural Initiaves
or ACCI.

Then you should mail the checks to:

Adventive Cross Cultural Initiatives
89 Auriga Dr
Nepean, Ontario K2E7Z2

Please note: Rachel and/or my name should appear nowhere on the check. Please include a sticky note or some other means of identification that the funds are coming for us.

Online Giving for Canadians!!

If you would like to give online with a credit card. Adventive has set this up through a website called Canadahelps. You can go to this site through this link: Canadahelps giving (This link will not work properly in Mozilla Firefox! Please open it up in Internet Explorer for now. Thanks
First click the ‘Donate now’, or ‘Donate monthly’ buttons. Then, just choose whether you want to give one time or monthly, enter the amount, and then choose John and Rachel Clancy from the drop down menu. And proceed to check out.
Pretty simple. If you have any questions, you can feel free to contact us or Adventive. Their website is www.adventive.ca

Support

So you’re interested in supporting us?

Well, there are three major ways you can help as we prepare and go on our internship.

1. Pray:

God hears your prayers! Please ask Him to move and show Himself in and through us as we prepare for ministry in Hyderabad.

2. Encouragement.

Please keep in touch. Whether it’s with a word of encouragement, just a hello, or whatever, just know, that we want to hear from you!

3. Financially:

We are not actively raising support right now. What that means is that our plan is to currently to start working as soon as possible when we arrive in Scotland. Though, I do have a desire to be involved in the ministry full time, I feel that the best course of action is to go, and see what happens. We certainly wouldn’t turn away any gifts :), however, unfortunately, we have no way to issue reciepts for tax purposes currently. Should we begin support raising again, we shall keep this site updated.
If you have any questions that aren’t already answered on the support FAQ’s page, please be sure to ask either by leaving a comment or e-mailing us.
Thanks,
John Clancy

Our Vision
We want to see the lives of people transformed from bondage to freedom through the power of Jesus Christ, and the living hope He gives!

some notes about us:

John Leo Clancy III
interesting tidbits
An American boy who loves Jesus. New to being a husband and a dad, he enjoys the delights and challenges that come along with the family life. He gets excited about visiting new places, eating new food, and experiencing different cultures. Also passionate about philosophy and debate, he is a conversationalist. Among the prominent authors on his book shelf are John Piper, C.S. Lewis and other classics. However, he admits that he doesn’t read as much as he’d like due to the prominence of his social nature and a slight addiction to web developing and other techy stuff.
He is grateful for what God has given him and looks to the future with expectation of the blessings to come!

Rachel Rachel Frances Clancy (neƩ Goff)
interesting tidbits
A Canadian who loves trees, does what she can for the environment, and would live in a forest community in a tree house if given the right opportunity. Would choose community living over having her own bathroom. Wants to live in Bellingham, WA one day. Enjoys reading books, especially by George Macdonald, Madeleine L’Engle, Beatrix Potter, L.M. Montgomery and C.S. Lewis, and is usually reading more than one at a time. Her biggest passion is writing; however, she dabbles in many different artistic venues. Is fond of solitude, yet enjoys sharing a cup of tea with friends. Sings and dances for her baby girl. Has lived in five countries and three continents. Blames her gypsy blood for all the travelling she’s done.

AriaBethAria Beth Clancy
interesting tidbits
Someone who knows what she wants. Likes taking naps with Mr. Bear. Enjoys the flavour of books. Gives her toys kisses. Endures having her cheeks pinched by strangers. Will not let them tell her not to suck her thumb. Likes mama’s milk more than anything. Wants to eat everyone’s food. Is intense about playing. Curious about everything. Slept the entire journey across the Atlantic.

Mr. BearMr. Bear
interesting tidbits
Aria’s knight in shining (furry) armor. Has a supernatural dose of patience. Loves kisses on the mouth, ears, paws and any other place his best friend, Aria will dish out. Doesn’t complain about anything including vigorous hugs. Guards Aria while she sleeps and wards off mosquitos while she plays. So concerned about Aria’s sleep that he shelters her eyes from any wayward rays of light. What a great catch!

Home

Actually, we know where our home is, and it isn’t here on this earth. So, like Paul the Apostle, we surrender our lives to Christ as we fix our eyes on Jesus. He is our reward, and truly, He is the only one able to guard us on this earth.

We have made a lot of touchdowns here and there since we were married on May 29, 2004 in Washington state. We’ve spent time serving and living in San Francisco, CA; Syracuse, NY; Bloomington, MN (where our daughter, Aria, was born); Hyderabad, India; and now, Paisley, Scotland (where second daughter, Kiera, was born). We have been involved with such organizations as Prodigal Project, Bethany College of Missions, CBNIndia/Operation Blessing and Christians Against Poverty. If you want to know more about our lives, you can check out our bio and read our testimonies— John and Rachel. We also keep people involved in our lives through our updates, John’s reflections, and Rachel’s musings.
Many Blessings!

Please feel free to contact us and to check our journals and prayer point section regularly.
Thank you and God bless!
