Dancing Feet

by:Rachel

Our wee daughter can’t help but have an eclectic taste in music with two parents such as us. John and I usually differ when it comes to taste in music; hence, Aria is exposed to quite a broad spectrum.
Dancing has become one of Aria’s favourite things to do. For so long, our speakers for our computer were shot so we had no music in the house for a period of a couple of months. When John finally brought a pair home from work and we had music filling our ears again, we discovered Aria’s love of dance.

drummingThe little drummer girl.

This little bee-bopper has a variety of ways in which she dances. The most common is the head bob. As soon as she hears the first strains of music, whether it be R & B or classical, her little head starts bobbing back and forth and her face gets serious as she concentrates on enjoying the music. She’ll often come and stand holding on to the computer chair looking up at me with her head bobbing. Last Sunday she fell asleep on the way to church and almost slept through all the singing. I believe she woke up on the last song. Her head was bobbing almost before she got her eyes opened! It’s wonderful entertainment for us. The other way in which she celebrates music is simply clapping her hands, often joined by head-bobbing. The third way happens when she’s sitting on her bottom. Her little bum leaps up and down off the ground as she holds her arms out to each side for balance. Aria is also fascinated by drumming and enjoys joining her daddy in hitting the table with her hands. Music is in her veins.

Another recent development I’ve noticed in Aria is her love of beauty, especially in pictures or things hanging on the wall. We have a vibrant wall-hanging depicting Indian dancers, elephants, horses, birds, and flowers, dappled with a few mirror at even intervals. Aria loves this wall-hanging and for a week after we hung it up, she would point to it as soon as she woke up from her nap and want us to bring her over to it so she could shower it with kisses and feel the embroidery. Maps on walls also fascinate her. She enjoys flowers as well and seems to have learned not to eat them.

Also, Aria enjoys exercising her walking skills. She delights to take John or my hands and have us walk her around the room and out on the balcony. This morning she crawled into her room and grabbed onto her bassinet that is no longer in use.

a tumbleThe camera was already on her when she managed to flip the thing on top of her–had to snap a shot before rescuing her.

Pretty soon she was pushing it around like a walker and looked at us as she brought it out of her room to see if it was okay. She then went tearing around the living room enjoying her new found freedom. She had a couple of falls, but nothing to prevent her from continuing to explore her new talents.

Hilarious! What a beautiful little update… I especially enjoyed the part about the music and dancing. Funny about the so called ‘walker’ episode too! Missing you all very much and hoping we get to see you soon.
    Love you lots.

So sweet…she even holds her hands in a great drumming position. Great Grandma Jean Clancy would appreciate this story as she is so talented musically as are most of her children.Love and miss you all, Nonna

Hooray and halleluia- I think there’s supposed to be a J in there. What a wonderful upbeat letter. Made our day. The cheese sandwich pic with Aria’s foot on the tray is precious. The fact that you’ll be here for the wedding and after is the VERY best news we’ve had in a long time.I’ll have to be careful not to overwhelm Aria when I greet her. I’ll keep my eyes open for a nice winter jacket or coat for her. What’s her favorite color? Glad you’re feeling well Rachel.Jim doesn’t see the babies as often as I do. Will probably call him “great” Let me know if you get this. I may not be doing it right. Love, Me
