Living Water image
CBN India’s Living Waters project is about providing clean drinking water to villagers all throughout India to show the love of Jesus.

I never imagined myself working in Christian Television. In fact, I admitted to my boss the other day that at some point in time, I assented to the view that Christians should really stay out of TV. I have heard so many jokes cracked about TV evangelists and the outlandish styles and, claims that they make that, without ever consciously making a decision about Christian TV, I had just decided that it wasn’t all that great. Somewhere along the line, I felt that if a preacher preached most often on TV, that there was something wrong with his Spirituality, or teaching and that I should probably not go there for great teaching.
Well, as I sat in the daily chapel that occurs every morning on the roof top of CBN here, my heart was touched for what God is doing here. I wept as I listened to the testimonies of just a few of the thousands that call the call centers here for counseling. It wasn’t what CBN had done for these people that touched my heart but, how God was reaching out to them. I tried to keep my composure as I listened to one man’s battle with a depression so strong that his entire family had decided along with him to commit a family suicide! As one last ditch effort, they called the number that they saw on a CBN program and God gave that man a living hope to share with His family.

CBN India's medical team.
The medical team is on the move seeing thousands of patients.

The counseling center is just one place where Jesus is shared though. They have humanitarian projects that shine the light of Jesus to places that need Him desperately. The Living Waters team travels throughout India drilling wells in places that are sometimes very resistant to the gospel. They have had more success than the Indian Government in finding water for places that really need it. There are numerous stories that come out of this ministry but one really stands out. This one village was told that no water could be found in their village. The people were resistant to even let the team try. But, they said, “fine… drill! And, if you find any water, we’ll change the name of the village.” Previous to that, they had to walk very long distances to the neighboring villages. And sometimes, those villagers could get cocky and decide not to give water to their neighbors. Well, to make a long story short, the villagers decided to change the name of their village to the “Jesus Village” after the water was found!
But, water is just one aspect. They are also out doing medical camps. I believe the doctor in charge of the camps told me that they saw 15,000 people already this year, performing over 300 cataract eye surgeries! They also perform cleft palate surgeries on little babies and give hope to these families who are thought to be cursed because of the child’s deformities.
Another way that they look out for children are with projects in the slums. They set up a school for the children of trash collectors, prostitutes, and beggars, teaching them not only the basics of hygiene, but, giving them a quality education so that they will have the resources to move out of the slums. These are kids who, without a decent education, have very little to no hope of ever making it out of the terrible conditions that they were born into. Hinduism’s answer to this is that they have done something in a past life to deserve this lot. Perhaps the next life will be better for them if they earn it. But, Jesus’ hope for these kids is both eternal and instant, at the same time.
There are other things going on here at CBN, and Operation Blessing but, what are we doing? Well, Kumar Periasamy is the Singaporean man that I came to work for. It was his reputation among his peers and classmates at Bethany that led us to this place. He is acting as the director here at CBN and hence has a very busy schedule. I believe that a major part of my ministry here is to assist Kumar however I can. He has a wonderful vision for this ministry and I believe that helping him where I can, will further what God is doing in this place.
What’s that going to look like? Well, the first project that he’s given me has to do with production. It’s a little complex, and perhaps dull, but it involves their video library. I plan to help them better utilize the video footage that they currently have to maximize resources in the future. I’d be more than happy to explain in greater detail to any one who is interested. Just drop a comment in this article and I’ll explain more.
As far as preaching is concerned: I really have a great desire to preach the word here. I must say, I’m a little intimidated so, you can please pray for boldness. As of yet, the only preaching I’ve done has been in the CBN chapel. I had many encouraging comments afterwards, and believe that there was fruit born there, but I also want to get out and preach to non-believers and to other churches. Some opportunities have been offered to me so, I’ll keep you updated.
In the meantime, we want to be Jesus to our neighbors, and Jesus to those who meet us and interact with us. Please pray for our marriage to be a light to others and our lives to be witnesses to others of Jesus’ goodness.
So, thanks a bunch to all of you for your support. I pray that much fruit will be added to your account on our behalf. If you’d like to check out CBN India or Operation blessing, please do so.
Ok… don’t forget to pray for us. God bless!
