Being Back at Bethany

by:John

Well, we’re back at Bethany!!
I can’t tell you how great it does feel to be back in the swing of things w/ worship chappels, great discussions about God and theology, homework and great friends. God is definitely very gracious to us to allow us to be here and grow in this safe enviroment. And… what’s more is that I know that He is preparing Rachel and I to go out and share His truths, and actually spread His kingdom abroad to the hearts of men.
As exciting as that is, I do not hold it lightly becase, I am so well aware of my weakness. Instead, I must grasp it by faith, believing that even though, I am often lazy and uncompassionate towards others, God cares enough about me and them to pour out His grace in and through me. (pardon the run on sentence please).
Yeah, someone here recently said something really cool about the harvest. It was in reference to when Jesus said that the harvest was pleantiful and the workers were few. He was saying that from a farmers perspective, it’s clear that when the harvest is ripe, you can know that when you go out into the fields, you are going to find wheat, corn or whatever it is that you are harvesting. And, barring any huge disasters, you will generally harvest as much as you can durring those days. Now, I know that this is true because I worked on a raspberry harvest one summer. I saw so many raspberries durring those harvest (12-14 hr) days that when I’d close my eyes at night, the berries would be flashing before me in the dark. Well, this guy was saying, that the harvest really is white in the fields. That is for today and we can expect that if we go out, we will bear fruit.
So, I know that it’s not by my effort. It’s God who gives the increase. I will merely abide in Him, fixing my eyes on the perfecter of my faith. And I do need to cling to Him because like I said, my imperfections are very real to me. But, thank God that I’m not the perfecter of my faith, He is. And, thank God that He uses the weak to show His glory. So, if you are weak… like me… know that God isn’t looking for strength, He’s looking for willingness.
Blessings to all of you! I’ll be writing more about internship soon.
